Artist Statement:

Devil-May-Care Series.

Each of these pieces carries the essence of Devil-May-Care in approach, style, and content. Drawing inspiration from the reckless spirit of skateboarding and BMX, and the heathen, rough-and-tumble ethos of youth, the work examines inherent risk as it emerges through observation and action.The physical acts of fragmentation, mark-making, and image construction coalesce in guise of poetic surveillance—surveying experience as lived through action and reflection.

Bio: 

Israel “Izzy” Davis is an artist whose work plays between the boundaries of object and image. He has taught over 50 workshops at art centers and universities across the country and abroad. HIs work has been included in over 100 exhibitions nationally. Izzy produces functional and non-functional works ranging in content from personal narratives, observations, and fun. He is an Associate Professor and Ceramics Area Head at Central Michigan University. When he isn’t teaching or making art, Izzy is making meals and spending time with his wife and twin daughters in Grand Rapids, MI.
