This mug was fired on its side resting on three seashells that formed a tripod. By firing the piece on its side Jon allows ash and fluxes to accumulate on the top of the piece throughout the firing of the soda kiln, and gravity to allow the glaze to move and respond to the form resulting in natural drips.
