This piece, like all langka vessels, is hand-built with spikes individually applied to the surface to mimic the repetition of spikes on a langka fruit. After the glaze firing, 22k gold luster was applied to make it shine. My mother’s grandmother, Lola Asuncion, had gold hammered into her teeth (against her husband’s wishes!) to flex on everyone.
