Statement:My work explores simple utilitarian forms designed to be used every day. I find myself drawn to and inspired by Japanese and Korean folk pottery, British slipware and contemporary pottery in Appalachia and Minnesota. I decorate my work on the exterior using slips. The soda firing and wood firing results provide subtle and dramatic surfaces that I find alluring. The often-contrasting results create tension and a sense of balance and harmony that are a part of my firing explorations. I am a mark maker hoping to capture a sense of movement, rhythm and calmness through applying slip on simple quiet forms
